A-ha announce they are to split up

A Ha have announced they are to split next year, after completing a farewell world tour.

The Norwegian trio released a statement on A-ha.com saying that, after 25 years together, they have decided to concentrate on other projects.

Doing this now will give us a chance to get more involved in other meaningful aspects of life, be it humanitarian work, politics, or whatever else – and of course through new constellations in the field of art and music."

We are retiring as a band, not as individuals," the statement continued. "Change is always difficult and it is easy to get set in one's ways. Now it is time to move on."A Ha will play their final show together in Oslo on December 4.

A Ha Tickets for the gig go on sale tomorrow morning (October 16) at 10am (CET). See The Online Ticket Shop for more information.

Introduction To A Ha

a Norwegian a-ha is new wave group that was most famous in the UK and the USA during the 1980s, but continued to be worldwide booming in the 1990s and 2000s. The trio, consists of lead vocalist Morten Harket, guitarist Pål Waaktaar-Savoy and keyboardist Magne Furuholmen, shaped in 1982 and left Norway for London in order to make a profession in the music industry.

Beginning of the name a-ha comes from the lyric of an early song. After checking dictionaries in many languages, they got that ‘a-ha’ was an worldwide way of showing thanks, with positive suggestion. It was short, a-ha was easy to say and somewhat strange.

The first song to break through into the normal culture was “Take On Me”, which was characteristic zed on the album Hunting High And Low; a main reason for its fame was the music video that came some time later after the song’s release.
“Take on Me” was the first song Morten Harket heard Magne Furuholmen and Paul Waaktaar-Savoy play. At that time the song was called “Lesson One.” Eventually the single “Take on Me” is estimated to have sold 7-9 million copies worldwide; it reached at number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and number two in the UK Singles Chart. Sales were aided in the U.S.
